Furlough Quilt

October 10, 2013

Hello friends,

For those of you who do not know me personally, I am one of those people furloughed due to government shut down.  I have decided to embrace the time off and be crafty!  (As you can tell, I’ve been blogging, which I’m so excited for!)  I’ve been maintaining a clean home, cooking, and crafting.  I decided late last week that I wanted to quilt.  Nothing big or extravagant.   I’m not completely with it during this pregnancy, so I decided on a color blocked quilt with pretty quilting.  I dug through my fabric stash (not the new stuff) and found some big pieces of fabric that would make for a beautiful, and patriotic, furlough quilt.

I made the quilt roughly baby quilt size.  I’m such a fan of americana colors, it’ll be the perfect addition to our baby’s already bright and happy nursery.   Baby’s grandma already made a bright striped quilt so this will be a second quilt for baby to enjoy!  You can never have too many quilts, right?  🙂

What do you think?

I chose to do rounded edges on the quilt because I have never done that before, and I thought it might be easier.  It wasn’t too difficult really.  I found this how-to and then went with it.

I hope you like the quilt as much as I do.  I will admit, my edging is not perfect.  It could’ve been better if my back didn’t hurt so much while I was trying to hand stitch it.  I resorted to top stitching, which doesn’t always turn out nicely.  I’m very happy with it though and can’t wait to use it!

Happy quilting,
Amanda

Valentine’s Day Garland

February 14, 2013

Hello Hello!

As I have explained previously, I am in love with Valentine’s day.  While my previous blogs have been love related, this one is straight up Valentine’s, and what more appropriate day to post on than Valentine’s day!  I hope your day is filled with lots of love from all around.  Seriously, spread love and find love in everything you do!  Today my love is particularly strong for my family.  I wouldn’t get through life without them and this past year has been one for the books and one we need to overcome with love.  So I dedicate this Valentine’s day to my beautiful mom, sisters, husband, extended family, and in-laws.  Love is what makes the world go round.

Ok, enough of that sappy stuff, and let’s get down to business.  I made what I would consider one of the cutest felt garlands for this Valentine season.  I have purchased many a felt garland in my life, but have been obsessing over the opportunity to make one on my own.

I did this one the old fashion way and created a template out of a folder and cut it out of two colors of felt.  Easy!

The next step was to lay them out in a pattern and stitch them together.  I used a cream thread because I like the way it stands out, and I was a little bit lazy about changing my sewing machine thread.  ek!  Anyway, I pumped out three sets of these garlands, each a varying length.

They are all over my house and I can’t wait to make more garlands out of felt!  I think I’ll need to design some for every holiday.  Psst: I have a secret.  I have purchased a die cutting machine and I can’t wait till it arrives!  I am going to be pumping out all kinds of felt garlands!  I’ll do a whole blog about my new toy, don’t worry!

What kind of garlands do you like?  Leave a comment letting me know what holiday is your favorite to decorate for!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

August 7, 2012

We have finally finished out bathroom down to the last details! We had to paint the ceiling and touch up the walls. I also finally found shelves I wanted and they were at lowes all along! I’m still missing an integral piece but that will come with inspiration and time!

Check out our beautiful bathroom!

Bathroom update #1

June 13, 2012

So construction has been in full swing for about 2 and a half days now. It was a pretty quick gut and soon the plumber will do his magic and the rebuilding will begin. Here’s the look so far. Notice the hideous wallpaper found under the mirror. Ek!

Happy remodel!
