Valentine’s Day Garland

February 14, 2013

Hello Hello!

As I have explained previously, I am in love with Valentine’s day.  While my previous blogs have been love related, this one is straight up Valentine’s, and what more appropriate day to post on than Valentine’s day!  I hope your day is filled with lots of love from all around.  Seriously, spread love and find love in everything you do!  Today my love is particularly strong for my family.  I wouldn’t get through life without them and this past year has been one for the books and one we need to overcome with love.  So I dedicate this Valentine’s day to my beautiful mom, sisters, husband, extended family, and in-laws.  Love is what makes the world go round.

Ok, enough of that sappy stuff, and let’s get down to business.  I made what I would consider one of the cutest felt garlands for this Valentine season.  I have purchased many a felt garland in my life, but have been obsessing over the opportunity to make one on my own.

I did this one the old fashion way and created a template out of a folder and cut it out of two colors of felt.  Easy!

The next step was to lay them out in a pattern and stitch them together.  I used a cream thread because I like the way it stands out, and I was a little bit lazy about changing my sewing machine thread.  ek!  Anyway, I pumped out three sets of these garlands, each a varying length.

They are all over my house and I can’t wait to make more garlands out of felt!  I think I’ll need to design some for every holiday.  Psst: I have a secret.  I have purchased a die cutting machine and I can’t wait till it arrives!  I am going to be pumping out all kinds of felt garlands!  I’ll do a whole blog about my new toy, don’t worry!

Texas Independence Day!

March 2, 2012

It’s not just a state, it’s a whole state of mind!

Happy Texas Independence Day to y’all!

Today is a wonderful day to be in Texas!  Besides Independence Day, it’s also Texas Flag Day and Sam Houston Day!  I hope you wore your boots, hat, or pearl snap shirt today to celebrate!

A few facts you may not know about Texas:

  • There is only one natural lake in the state of Texas: Lake Caddo
  • The Texas state folk dance is the square dance.
  • Texas declared independence from Mexico today 176 years ago! (Read the Declaration of Independence here:
  • Texas officially won independence from Mexico after the Battle of San Jacinto on April 21st which only lasted 18 minutes.
  • Sam Houston was the first elected President of the Republic of Texas.
  • Mirabeau B. Lamar is considered the “Father of Education in Texas” and was also a president of the Republic.
  • Six flags have flown over Texas: France, Spain, Mexico, Texas, Confederacy, United States of America

Oh, and Texas Exes, don’t forget to break bread today to honor the institution that made your education possible.

Valentine’s is my favorite.

February 14, 2012

I’m not sure if I posted last year on Valentine’s day, but just in case I didn’t, I want all of you to know how much I love and adore this holiday.  I am not normally a pink heart and fuzzy stuffed animal lover.  (Well, I retract the fuzzy stuffed animal comment, I love those!)  I cannot resist pink and red and hearts and love when it comes to February.  I have no idea what it is about this day.

One of the best Valentine’s Days I have ever had was as a senior in high school.  Sarah and our best friend Kelly made shirts and were each other’s valentines.  It was amazing.

This year I was able to give Valentine gifts to three of my best friends when I saw them and it made me so happy!  Seriously, love and hearts and happiness, that’s what life is all about!

Happy Valentine’s Day to all our wonderful followers.  I hope your day is filled with unexpected smiles and love.  You deserve all the happiness in the world!

Love and happiness,
